Finding your body’s blind spots There will be many nontraditional postures in a Yoga Tune Up® class. This is “smart yoga” where the teachers acknowledge that every body is different. The class may focus on one particular area of the body (i.e. hips, shoulders) or towards a peak pose. The majority of the class will be spent preparing the body with self massage via the Therapy Balls and targeted “Minivinis” or mini –vinyasas (flow with breath). One of the primary functions of Yoga Tune Up® is to make us more aware. This awareness allows us to step back and observe our physical and mental activities. Another focus in a Yoga Tune Up® class is practicing with purpose. The powerful practice of crafting a Sankalpa (a chosen resolution or intention that helps to positively reshape and influence one’s direction and purpose) is woven into each class. Much of the work done in this class is a way to step back from our normal activities (yoga, running, sports, etc) take inventory and allow the body to recover from all of the overuse/misuse. The mind body connection is evident in this practice as it acknowledges that unexpressed emotions can locate itself in the body as tension.
