Thirty-four-year-old Swedish-born Eske Rex lives and practices “designer investigations” in Copenhagen. Watching the first subtle moments of this video reminds me of waking up in the morning, the day open unmarked ahead of me. As the machine deepens it arcs, its movements take on a life of their own, and the laws of physics operate on a very visible scale.
Watching the drawing machine, we see how our own choices, set in motion each day, add up, take on momentum and determine our potential. And how practice, easing our habitual responses, inscribes our lives with deep flowing arcs, leaving traces of grace.
The sound of this video is remarkable. Like a rocking chair or porch swing, it’s meditative and visceral. You can almost feel the paper and the weight of the swing. Great mic’ing and mastering!
